Costco Planning C’ville Location

Costco is planning to open a location on 29N, Sean Tubbs writes for Charlottesville Tomorrow. The Stonefield shopping center, located wretchedly at Hydraulic and Emmett, will be continuing development, and the South Carolina company that owns it says that Costco is “100 percent committed” to occupying a big-box location there.

Located wretchedly at Hydraulic and Emmet indeed. I thought that Costco was a likely tenant for the new Wegmans shopping center planned for Fifth Street Extended and I-64.

Former Supervisor Dumler announced last year that Costco was looking at that location, but I’m not sure how official that. Costco officials were in attendance on Monday, and the design mock-ups presented to the ARB depict a Costco. Will it come to pass? Stay tuned.

Well, they could have brain eating zombies walking around have better service than the Cville Sams Club. The selection and prices will be the deciding factor in this sort of biz…

Stonefield needs this, badly. If something doesn’t change over there, the project will be a failure.

Who knew that one of the busiest intersections in the area could be such an awful, awful location? (That’s a rhetorical question; I know some people were saying that prior, but still)

Even a Costco won’t help the god-awful traffic/parking pattern at Stonefield. Who thought it was a good idea to have the major lots on the BACK of the retail establishments, and then not to have enough for a 14-screen theater, AND make it difficult to get to from Hydraulic and 29? Plus the buildings all look like mausoleums.

This is a terrible location to an area of 29 that can barely handle the traffic it has now. Warehouse stores are better in edge locations. This was rumoured to be in the 5th street location with a Wegman- which would be a much better location given the paucity of shopping in that area and it’s location next to interstate 64
