I haven’t wanted an omelet from anywhere since reading the Tavern’s health department report. I can’t stop imagining some stranger’s fingernail cutting into it.
Even from the outside, that place looks filthy and run down. Going back to when I was 13 years old and went past it every day on my way into town, I don’t believe that I ever had the slightest desire to go inside.
Jackson, some of the more “filthy and run down” looking places in this town are the ones with better inspection records. Wayside Takeout has always looked pretty dingy to me, but from what I remember of their inspection records on the health department site, they’ve done pretty well. On the other hand, Chipotle, which boasts its local meat and seems pretty clean, has had some problems.
Of course, the Tavern’s inspection records are also pretty bad. I believe I’ll wait for the results of the next one before deciding whether to ever eat there again. Oddly enough, I’ve been wanting eggs lately, but I’ll make them at home.

The Architectural Review Board has approved a bike-themed mural on West Market, below the McGuffey Art Center, although at least one member expressed concerns that it might look like the bicyclists were riding away from Charlottesville’s downtown. #
In other news, I had a tasty and salmonella-free breakfast at the Bluegrass Grill yesterday morning.

Really?!
Fool your customers once, shame on you. Fool them twice…

The backwards ampersand always annoyed me, too.
Has anyone else ever noticed that the slogan painted on the roof of the Tavern says
“Where students, tourists S townspeople meet.”
It’s supposed to be an ampersand (&), but it’s backwards and is, in fact, a cursive S?
Makes me smile every time I drive by.
