In the DP’s version of this story (sorry, too rushed to link), I read that Woodson and the younger kid went into the Waynesboro Walmart at 12:30 a.m. to buy ammunition, after there had already been reports of shots fired. So this must have been in the middle of their spree, and, this is the part that staggers me, they were already drunk (by their own admissions).

So: two drunk young men can go into Walmart and buy ammo? That didn’t set off any alarm bells for the cashier or for the guy who unlocked the ammo case?

Why in the world does anyone need to buy ammo at 12:30 a.m.? Wal-Mart (and all other stores in VA) stops selling alcohol at midnight, right?

Here’s the passage from the DP’s story today (less rushed right now):

“Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney David Ledbetter told the court that around 12:30 a.m. March 27 – about 20 minutes after police received reports of shots fired on Interstate 64 – Woodson and another teen went into the Waynesboro Wal-Mart and bought ammunition for a .22 Magnum rifle in the sporting goods department.”

I’m still kind of gobsmacked — they’re drunk, it’s 12:30 a.m., and WalMart policy is apparently “anyone in any condition who wants ammo at any time can step right up”???

Is this what the Founding Fathers intended with that whole well-armed and regulated militia thing?

I read nothing about “beaten senseless”. Perhaps I missed it.

That said, the neighbors are in danger of a lawsuit against them – unfortunately.
