High School Attack Plot Foiled

Three teenagers have been arrested for planning a violent attack on a pair of area high schools, NBC 29 reports. Three students from WAHS, AHS, and Jack Jouett are being held at Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center, a result of a tip.

The question will be whether these kids were both serious and capable of such an attack, or if they were just venting. If such cases around the country in the past few years are any indicator, the latter is certainly more likely.

Well, they did find shotguns and some other stuff in their houses when they raided them (not their parents’ guns).

Pretty scary, if you ask me.

Who would have thought, in Charlottesville, of all places?

(On the other hand, Columbine was in the middle of the suberbs…)

According to students at Albemarle one of the bombers(alledgedly) is the NRA tee shirt kid that cost the county a couple of hundy in legalfees etc.

  • Oh, man. That’d be funny. Alan Newsome was 12 years old in 2002, so he’d be 16 today, or a Junior at AHS.

It’s the kind of thing that sounds too good to be true. :) I hope the young Mr. Newsome is amused at the rumors.

what exactly did they find that they won’t tell what it is? Whole thing sounds rather fishy to me. “Conspiracy” is always a good charge if you want to get someone. Is there any evidence that shows these kids were going to commit violent acts, or is it all, like you said, venting? Was what they wrote fantasy, hyperbole, speculation? Maybe a violent crime was thwarted, but should one always believe those in power ,whether GWB or Albemarle authorities? Remember the “weapons of mass destruction ” in Iraq.
Hell, we all probably have violent thoughts at times, doesnt mean we will act on them.

Since they didn’t actually do anything other than maybe plot something. Let’s just try them all in Juvenile court, and then plea out to probation and ongoing therapy until they all turn 18. Since no one was hurt it’s a fair and sensible solution, that will still allow them to have some sort of future.

“maybe plot something”? I agree that thats a pretty weak case for convicting someone of a crime. If they did break some sort of law , your proposal sounds fair.
However, can’t ,until actual evidence of illegal acts presented, shake the feeling that this might be some sort of “witch hunt”. Against kids who are “different” or “loners”.
Also, in today’s “politically correct” climate, a kid who likes guns, or the shooting sports, or (ohmigod) hunting might well be seen as some sort of a dangerous criminal.
I’m a NRA member and yes, I could say I am “obsessed with guns”, and the Second Amendment, and ALL our freedoms. And one thing I always believe is you can’t trust the government, not the police, not the White House, not City Council.
To some I would truly be a frightening person, a queer hippie redneck gun freak anarchist.

“maybe plot something?” is intended to be read as “if they actually are guilty of anything” as may be determined by any current or future evidence that might be put forth in a trial.

Additionally no part of my previous post should be read as me passing judgement on these three people. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty (except of course with a rape accusation then it’s reversed). I should’ve stuck a big fat boldface If they actually are guilty of something… at the front of the first line.

My motto: Treat each individual with respect until they give you a reason not to, and then after that all bets are off. :)
