  • As of 5:30PM, they had hundreds more potential donors than they could handle and were turning everyone away. According to the volunteer I spoke with, VBS will be at Fashion Square again tomorrow and the next day, 10AM – 7PM, to take more donations.

  • Does anybody have info regarding Red Cross blood drives? It would seem on the surface at least that the ARC has the pipeline and disaster experience that VBS clearly lacks and will be more likely to get the blood where it is needed, faster.

VBS’s mantra is that the blood they receive is used locally.

I just called the Red Cross (295-LIFE), and all of their equipment went to northern VA overnight to be on-scene. They will be accepting donations locally Friday from noon to 6 in the cage at U-Hall.

  • From the 9/12 Daily Progress:

Virginia Blood Services will hold drives at Fashion Square mall today and Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and at the Church of Incarnation, 1465 Incarnation Drive, on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The group also will accept donations at its office on 853 W. Main St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Cage at University Hall, 300 Massie Road, on Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • According to a report I heard on the radio this morning, some Pentagon victims are being treated at UVa hospital. Although in this case VBS is no doubt sending blood elsewhere, it’s even being used in Charlottesville to help victims of these attacks.

  • I saw Pegasus arrive at UVA about 9pm last night. It was the first aircraft I saw all day.

  • I tried giving blood Wednesday, but they’d also already filled up three hours before close. They told me they’d reopen Thursday at the church behind Toys-R-Us, right off 29.
