Yet Another Power Plant: Louisa

The never-ending parade of area power plant proposals marches onward. Entergy Wholesale Operations of New Orleans has filed an application with Louisa to build a 1,000-megawatt gas-burning power plant in the county. This is in addition to the four plants already approved in Buckingham, Fluvanna and Louisa. Says Lee Lintecum, Louisa’s county administrator, of the proposal, “We have not found anything negative about it.” Austin Graham has the story in today’s Progress.

Really. C’mon, all you power plant supporters, where are you? This is number five for us. And I’ll be the first to say that my complaint is NIMBY: we just don’t need this stuff here. It ain’t necessary. We were lucky in the days of industrialization — Charlottesville and the surrounding area refused (despite arguments from many) to be host to any major industrial businesses. The result? No pollution, which made Charlottesville an attractive place to vacation and gave us a good reputation. I’d say that worked out.

Let’s learn from the past, huh?

The only new power plant I want to see is my own

personal natural gas fuel cell. All the power you’ll ever

need, cheaper, non-polluting, and totally self contained!

When was the last time you had a natural gas outage?

I guess as long as the people who hold a monopoly

on selling electricity continue to have their way

    with local government polit^H^H^H^H^H whores

    we’ll never get the opportunity.

Where is my water powered flying car! I was promised

    a water powered flying car!!!

Damn those power plant builders and their need to produce more power before we start to look like California. I know I’m pissed that they want to build out in those rural counties like where I live, where it would be cheaper and safer to build a power plant if they have to build it somewhere.
