The annual Nelson County Summer Festival will be held this weekend at the Oak Ridge Estate. There will be music, agricultural displays, artisans’ work, food vendors, wineries and a children’s area. Musical acts include Seldom Scene and Terri Allard Band, among others. It runs Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 6pm. Admission is $5.

Well, heck, I’m going. You just can’t beat the raw excitement of agricultural displays.
If you like the blues, the Sunday lineup definitely won’t put you to sleep. Jan Smith does nothing for me (she’s very talented, but not my cup o’ tea), but Anders Osborne (no relation to Ozzy, I can assure you!) is a relatively new and very remarkable talent, and Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets featuring the incomparable Sam Myers is one hell of a hot band. This is a great lineup.
And if you like or can even tolerate folk and bluegrass, it’s pretty hard to beat the Seldom Scene and Terri.
I went to the Nelson SUmmer Festival a few years ago and had a wonderful time – it’s very laid back, and the estate is pretty well shaded, so it shouldn’t get too hot.
I neglected to mention that AF & the Rockets with Sam Myers was nominated this year for a WC Handy Award as best blues band. Seems like they get nominated just about ever year.
Don’t forget about Old Farm Day in Fluvanna County this October!
Well, I sent a friend (I couldn’t go, I was working) and she said it was $12 per person. Thanks for the misinformation, Waldo!
Looks like I misinterpreted http://www.oakridgeestate.com/oakridgeestate/news.asp. Oh, well; can’t get it right every time.
